Two people were stabbed in Paris on 09/25/2020 near the former offices of controversial satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo in Paris; both victims were seriously injured but are expected to survive. The situation has been contained.
The assailant did not know the people stabbed.
Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin characterized the attack as an act of Islamic terrorism.
Two suspects are in custody; one suspect is from Pakistan and the other is from Algeria; one of the suspects arrived in France three years ago as an unaccompanied minor.
One of the suspects was arrested in August for carrying a screwdriver.
A blade, possibly a machete or meat cleaver, was recovered in the area of the attack.
The attack occurred as a high-profile trial is underway in Paris of 14 individuals accused of helping orchestrate the 2015 attacks on the Charlie Hebdo offices in Paris.
