Sitrep: Two stabbed in Paris attacks- SItuation stable

  • Two people were stabbed in Paris on 09/25/2020 near the former offices of controversial satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo in Paris; both victims were seriously injured but are expected to survive. The situation has been contained.

  • The assailant did not know the people stabbed.

  • Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin characterized the attack as an act of Islamic terrorism.

  • Two suspects are in custody; one suspect is from Pakistan and the other is from Algeria; one of the suspects arrived in France three years ago as an unaccompanied minor.

  • One of the suspects was arrested in August for carrying a screwdriver.

  • A blade, possibly a machete or meat cleaver, was recovered in the area of the attack.

  • The attack occurred as a high-profile trial is underway in Paris of 14 individuals accused of helping orchestrate the 2015 attacks on the Charlie Hebdo offices in Paris.
